Why we left the meters behind

Database invoices become difficult to forecast when query counts, IOPS, connections, branches, storage, and egress all compound independently. A modest traffic increase can then produce a much larger billing increase.

CheapDB measures the resources that define cluster capacity: CPU, memory, storage, replicas, backup retention, runtime, and network use. The console shows those rates before provisioning and itemizes them on every invoice.

The model produces a clear capacity baseline. Activity within a provisioned cluster shares its hourly rate, while storage growth, retention, and egress remain visible as separate usage dimensions.

Run it yourself.
